Emanuel Congregation is a Reform synagogue and a member of the Union for Reform Judaism. Founded in 1880 by a few families, is has been a part of the Chicago Jewish community ever since and has grown to nearly 500 families. Michael Zedek, our Senior Rabbi, joined the congregation in July of 2004 after 25 years in Kansas City. Working with Congregational Cantor Shelly Drucker Friedman and Rabbi Emeritus Hermann Schaalman, he has continued the vibrant legacy of Emanuel.
At Emanuel you will find a congregation that spans generations and includes all types of families. Emanuel strives to offer all members a way to be involved through study, worship, social justice and just plain social events.

The Union for Reform Judaism is now hosting a blog — RJ.org: News and Views of Reform Jews. It is hoped the blog will become a free marketplace of ideas about Judaism and the role it plays in our lives. It is a platform for Reform Jews and those who care about Judaism to come together to kibbitz and learn in an online community. In order for the blog to succeed, we need your help. Read it, comment on the entries and post your own submissions. And, even more, please let others who care about their Judaism know about the blog. The blog is at http://rj.org – please bookmark it and visit it often!
