Kesher Tov--Employment Alert!
Job Seeking Resources--Kesher Tov: Looking for a Good Connection?
The recession has impacted and transformed the nation, our community, our families and ourselves. Our North side Jewish clergy, leadership and members are concerned. Too many congregants are unemployed, underemployed, facing bankruptcies, downsizing their companies and facing lifestyle changes. In response to this continuing problem, lay leadership from Emanuel, Anshe Emet, Anshe Sholom Bene Israel, and Temple Sholom have combined forces to help and support their congregants.

How can we help each other? First we need your feedback to assess what kinds of resources, programming, services and general assistance congregants need.

Two surveys are on the Emanuel website that you can download and fill out. One addresses the issues facing those seeking work and advice. The second questionnaire is for those who would like to help, mentor and supportPlease fill out and return the forms via email to Rabbi Zedek at rabbizedek@emanuelcong.org. Also, if you have any questions, call the Rabbi at 773-561-5173.

Rabbi Michael Zedek and Rabbi Herman Schaalman hold the Torah that made the long trip to the World Union for Progressive Judaism conference in Hannover, Germany, in March 2006. The Emanuel Torah is on permanent loan to the Liberal Jewish Community of Hannover. This community was founded in 1995 and more than 97% of its members are from the former Soviet Union. The Rabbis and Torah were accompanied by several congregants on their journey to Germany. To present the torah, Rabbi Zedek, Rabbi Schaalman and Emanuel members stood under a chuppah held up by members of the Hannover congregation.

Cantor Katzman says she particularly values the opportunity to work with musically-talented congregants of all ages. The program is free and open to the community.
