The Emanuel Sisterhood

One of the first in the nation, Emanuel's Women of Reform Judaism is affiliated with the national organization Women of Reform Judaism / Federation of Temple Sisterhoods. The national organization represents 100,000 women in 600 local Sisterhoods throughout the United States, Canada and thirteen other countries, and is the women's agency of the Union for Reform Judaism.

"Oneg" means "Joy"  

The Women of Reform Judaism at Emanuel, one of the oldest in the entire nation, continues the traditional responsibility for providing and setting out the Oneg Shabbat every Friday.

The WRJ provides china and silverware for Emanuel. If you would like to use the plates/glasses/utensils for your event, the cost is $2.00 a place setting. Please contact Synagogue Director  Sara Beth Salzman for more information at 773/561-5173.

Emanuel Cafe  

Emanuel Cafe
Every Sunday when Religious School is open

The Emanuel Cafe, sponsored by the Sisterhood, serves coffee, doughnuts, and bagels every Sunday when Religious School is open. Proceeds go to scholarships for children to attend the Olin-Sang-Ruby Union-Institute (OSRUI) Reform Camp. If you would like to help run the cafe on a particular Sunday, please contact Carolyn Heyman through the temple office at 773/561-5173.
