Each Friday, with the exception of the Share-Shabbat Family Services, Emanuel welcomes Shabbat at 8:00 pm. The congregation welcomes Shabbat by kindling the lights of Shabbat, in song, with prayer, and Torah reading. A lively d'var Torah is led by our senior Rabbi, Michael Zedek, and in his absence our members are encouraged to lead the discussion. As we read the Torah each week, we examine our traditions, current events, and the future of Jewish living.
At the conclusion of services, the Sisterhood hosts an oneg Shabbat where members take time to chat with old friends and welcome new faces.

Once a month, we join in celebrating Shabbat with services at 6:30 pm and a Share-Shabbat dinner following at 7:15 pm. The lively and intergenerational service follows a modified prayer-book written and compiled by Emanuelites. You might recognize some songs from camp and if you don't recognize them, you'll know them next month.
Dinner participants bring a side dish, salad or dessert for eight to share. Emanuel provides a main dish, challah, juice and wine for $7 for each person. No charge for children under 3 years of age. (The cost for those not bringing a side dish is $10 for each person three years or older.) You must make a reservation for the Share-Shabbat dinner. Be sure to email reservations@emanuelcong.org or call 773-561-5173 by 12:00 noon on the Wednesday before the dinner. Together we kindle the lights of shabbat at each table, join in saying Kiddush and the Motzi, and enjoy a lively dinner among members.

A tradition at Emanuel for many years has been renewed with the monthly Celebration Shabbat. Designated for the final Shabbat of the month, we take a moment to recognize simchas for the previous month. If you celebrated a birthday, anniversary, the birth of a child or grandchild, started college, renewed a driver's license or anything special, please join us at 8:00PM for a special blessing and a hearty Mazel Tov!

Free transportation for seniors is available to and from services.

Join us every Saturday morning at 11:00 AM for Shabbat services. We continue the conversation from Erev Shabbat during D'var Torah and often welcome a young member who is becoming a bar or bat mitzvah. Most Saturdays, you can come early for Torah Study with Rabbi Schaalman or advanced Hebrew with Rabbi Zedek.
