On Pesach, we celebrate the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt.

When is it?

15th of Nisan - 22nd of Nisan

How do we celebrate?

Seder, Matzah, No Hametz (leavened bread)

Purim

What is the holiday about?

On Purim, we celebrate the events of the Book of Esther. The Book of Esther took place during the Persian Empire, and Esther helped save the Jews from evil machinations of Haman, who tried to kill all the Jews.

14th of Adar

Rosh Chodesh

What is the holiday about?

Rosh Chodesh is the first day of every Hebrew/Jewish month. The Jewish calendar is based on the new moon.

What is the holiday about?

Rosh Hashanah is the day of Jewish New Year, and also the first of the Days of Awe.

Shabbat is the weekly day of rest. We take a pause from the rest of the week, come together to pray, have meals, and spend time with friends and family.

What is the holiday about?

Shavuot is the holiday when we celebrate the Israelites receiving the Torah at Mount Sinai.

What is the holiday about?

Simchat Torah happens right after Sukkot and is a holiday where we celebrate ending the past annual Torah cycle and starting the annual Torah cycle anew.

Tabernacle - The Festival of Huts

What is the holiday about?

On Sukkot, we celebrate the huts that the Israelites lived in the Sinai Desert during the 40 years after they left Egypt, but before they received the Torah. It is also an agricultural holiday, celebrating the harvest.

When is it?

Tisha B'Av

What is the holiday about?

Tisha B'av is when we remember the destruction of the Temples in Jerusalem.

What is the holiday about?

Tu B'shvat is an environmental holiday, where we celebrate the rebirth of all trees and plants. It reminds us that we have a responsibility to the planet where we live.

Yom Kippur

Day of Atonement

What is the holiday about?

Yom Kippur is the annual Day of Atonement, and the second holiday in the "Days of Awe". We spend the day fasting in prayer, thinking back to our actions of the previous year, and thinking about how we can do better in the coming year.

When is it?

10th of Tishrei
